The real problem

Why O-Level English is So Hard to Improve

You can memorise formulas and drill MCQs. Writing is different: when you don't score well, it's rarely clear why.

The feedback is vague and never enough

You wait weeks for a grade and a comment like "show, not tell", but no one shows you how. Assessment books give no feedback at all.

There is never enough practice

Writing only improves with regular reps, yet it's the easiest thing to put off. Essays end up crammed the night before the exam.

The answer isn't doing more. It's knowing what to fix. Playwrite gives students targeted practice and personalised feedback on every exam component, so they can improve swiftly and excel in their exams.

What Our Students Say About Playwrite

In school I'd just get 'be more descriptive' and had no clue what to change. Playwrite shows me exactly which lines are weak and how to fix them, so my compo actually started improving.
Rachel Ng
Secondary 3 student
I can submit an essay at night and get it marked on the O-Level bands in minutes. Seeing my content and language marks split up helped me climb from a B4 to a B2 before prelims.
Marcus Tan
Secondary 4 student
No more waiting a week for my tuition teacher. I just keep practising, and the model rewrites show me what a stronger paragraph actually looks like. It's like having a marker on demand.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What essay types does Playwrite mark?

Narrative, descriptive, expository, argumentative, and situational writing. All the formats that come up in O-Level Paper 1, with the marking rubric adapting to the essay type.

Can I upload handwritten essays?

Yes. Take a photo of your draft and upload it; the report comes back the same as for typed essays, scored against the rubric with line-by-line feedback.

Isn't this just ChatGPT?

No. Playwrite scores against the actual MOE O-Level rubrics (not generic 'good writing' advice), marks the bands separately for content and language, and shows you which sub-skills are pulling your grade down. Every comment is tied to a specific line of your essay.

Will the AI write my essay for me?

No, and that's the point. You write the essay, we mark it. The model rewrite is shown after your draft so you can see how to improve, not so you can submit it as your own.

How is this different from a tutor?

A tutor marks one essay a week and costs $300–$400 a month. Playwrite marks essays as fast as you can write them, against the rubric, every week. It doesn't replace a good tutor, but most students don't have one.

How accurate is the AI marking?

Our marking algorithm was built together with MOE school teachers who have marked countless exam papers, so every score reflects how real teachers actually mark. It has also been thoroughly tested and refined on a large bank of writing samples from students at every level, so the marking stays reliable across the full range of real student work.

Who created Playwrite?

Playwrite was developed by a dedicated team of technologists and former MOE teachers who share a passion for making high-quality English education accessible and affordable for every student.
